Five key concepts about Big Data

Some time ago we talked about Big Data, its uses and types. We also told you what the 4Vs are (volume, velocity, variety and veracity). In this post, we will go a bit further and we will delve into some key concepts in order to understand how it works.

What is Big Data?

Have you heard about Big Data but you don’t know exactly what it is? ‘Big Data’ is a term for data sets that are so large that conventional software is inadequate to deal with them within a reasonable time. It includes capture, storage and data curation as well as the infrastructures, technologies and services created in order to manage this huge amount of information.

We all are contributing to create data sets, in a direct or indirect way. Every day 2.5 Quintillion bytes of data are generated, European Union says. This amount of data is equivalent to 360,000 DVD.
